India Against Corruption - Boston Chapter
What is India Against Corruption?
India Against Corruption (IAC) is a citizen's movement to demand strong anti-corruption laws. Lokpal bills were introduced several times since 1968, yet they were never passed by the Indian Parliament. After a fast by veteran social activist Anna Hazare and widespread protests by citizens across India the Government of India constituted a 10-member Joint Committee of ministers and civil society activists to draft an effective Jan Lokpal Bill. The primary focus of IAC movement is to ensure a strong Lokpal bill. The IAC is a strictly voluntary organization and its participants are bound by the IAC code of conduct.
What is Jan Lokpal?
An institution in the centre as well as at the state level with 10 members and a chairperson each. And this will be having negligible influence from politicians as well as bureaucrats. The body will ensure time bound investigations on corruptions, recovery of loss caused to government, Confiscation of assets and power to punish if orders are not followed. The institution is so structured that they cannot be corrupted.
What is so special about it?
This is not a golden wand against corruption, but a serious attempt to control corruption. Government has drafted a toothless bill which is introduced in parliament for namesake. Such kind of political games can be curbed and the uncorrupted among them can do their task without any deadlock. By the presence of this body, we can ensure both politicians and bureaucrats will accomplish their quality task in time bound manner and all the citizen of India will be delivered justice equally without bribing anyone.
Why Boston needs to support?
Boston , being the educational capital of the world, is a hub for huge Indian expats and the demonstration at this city will come into lime light easily. Our peaceful protest planned at MIT and Harvard publicized through the invited national and international medias will definitely pressurize the Indian government to reform the law and Anna Hazare will receive the support from Boston Indians at the earliest.
What are we planning?
We are initially planning for awareness sessions at different part of Massachusetts and in a week time we will be planning a major event at Boston. Finally, I would like to urge my fellow Indians to come join the movement. Bostonians!!!.. This is the Chance…the Chance to fight for an Indian Cause… the Cause for bringing a strong anti corruption bill…Let the government hear our voice for achieving freedom from corruption. Join the Facebook group for more updates on Jan Lokpal Bill as well as the venue and date of the peaceful meetings. Pamphlet - http://www.indiaagainstcorruption.org/docs/english_pamphlet.pdf
